4 reasons resolutions fail (and just what that you can do about it)

So after many years of snarfing down cheesy beefs and bacon burgers, you’ve promised to chuck it all and get back into fighting shape.

Starting New Year’s Day, (after the pizza and chips throughout the game), it was likely to be dumbells rather than fried chicken and treadmills rather than tacos for you.

Then, just a couple weeks into the Year, you are to donuts and soda. New Year’s resolutions to get thin, exercise and eat better in many cases are abandoned by February. Why do a lot of us bail out so soon?

health enews checked along with Steve Belano, an individual trainer in the Advocate Good Samaritan Overall health Center?in Downers Grove, Ill., for insights on why good intentions bomb and just what we are able to do about it.

He cites four of the most common reasons resolutions tank:

Avoid the terrible toos!

No buddy-no hot body: Going solo around the fitness journey can be lonely. Finding a workout partner could make the difference between success and failure. Getting encouragement and accountability from the supportive friend can take you against slouch to svelte.

Belano says 2012 is a great time to launch a fitness plan. Take advantage of this new chapter of your life.

“Pick each day on the calendar making it your personal New Year’s Day,” Belano says. “Today is the best day to start your plan. Should you set reasonable goals, possess a long-term plan and friend alongside, it can be done!”
