Loss of memory linked to drinking

Many studies report the negative effects that alcohol has on the human body, from inside your mental health, impeding your sleep as well as damaging your DNA.

Now a new study, from the Department of Epidemiology & Public Health at the University College London, analyzes the long-term effects of alcohol consumption for men. Researchers found that men that drink more than two alcoholic drinks each day within their middle-age years could have memory loss hit them as much as six years sooner.

The study, published within the journal Neurology, surveyed 5,000 men ages 44 to 69 on how much they drink alcohol based drinks and just how often. Researchers then tested them on their memory recall and other cognitive tests about reasoning and performance. They tested them at the beginning of the research after which three more times on the Ten year period.

“Our study centered on middle-aged participants and suggests that heavy drinking is associated with faster decline in all regions of cognitive function in males,” said Severine Sabia, study author, inside a statement.

In comparison to those who’re non-drinkers and people who consumed less than two drinks a day, the heavier drinkers showed a decline in memory six years faster.

Researchers said the 2 drinks can be compared to about 36 grams of alcoholic drinks. The research also checked out nearly 2,000 women in the study, but data wasn’t sufficient to check the non-drinkers to the heavy drinkers.
